What does volunteering involve?

Morning sessions

During the morning session (11am to 12:30pm), volunteers set up the Foodbank; prepare the tables and trolleys, move the crates of food into position and handle the deliveries. They welcome donors, receive their gifts, check the date on the products, sort them and put them away in the storerooms

Afternoon sessions

During the afternoon session, volunteers welcome the clients and help to distribute the food and other products. They serve tea and coffee, they chat to and support each person who is visiting the Foodbank. At the end of the session, volunteers pack everything away back in the storerooms

Other activities

Extra work might involve collections of food from local shops or supermarkets, disposing of rubbish, general admin work or social media activities

What are the essential qualities to be a volunteer with us?

Our volunteers are warm and caring people. They are enthusiastic, positive and dedicated.

Considering the handling of tables, tinned food and other heavy products, we expect our volunteers to be able to carry 10kg over short distances.  See our FAQs for more information
